NORFOLK, 23529
As Director of Research Development, Jackie Stein oversees a team of Grant Development Specialists who support ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï proposal writing and research initiatives by providing resources and assistance to faculty members. She also manages the Office of Research’s intramural funding programs and coordinates limited submissions for the University.
Jackie joined the ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï Office of Research in 2007 and holds a BA in English from the University of Maryland. She received her MA in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University, and completed an additional 30 credit hours in family therapy and substance abuse treatment at ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï for licensure. Jackie’s diverse background includes many years in human services, where she served as a therapist, program administrator, and training director for public mental health agencies and private nonprofits. The funding challenges inherent to that field led to her first grant proposal in 1988. She is the sole author of over twenty funded proposals and received the Virginia Beach City Manager’s Creativity, Innovation and Public Service Award in 1993 for her work on a $6 million multi-agency project.
At ±¬ÁϹÏ, Jackie has successfully supported faculty proposals from all colleges to a wide range of agencies, including the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the US Department of Education, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as smaller private research foundations and the Commonwealth of Virginia’s $120 million National Disaster Resilience Competition HUD grant. She also serves on grant review panels for state and federal agencies such as Health and Human Services, and is an active member of the National Organization of Research Development Professionals.
