Technology Services (IT) Student Employment

STEP networking students

ITS provides students the opportunity to gain essential workplace experience during their enrollment. These departmental positions give students the credentials and practical knowledge they need to find success in the modern job market.

Employment Goals

Student employment prepares each student to be competitive, qualified and confident in their abilities when they graduate from ±¬ÁϹÏ. Our job opportunities provide computer knowledge, experience with computer software, testing applications, and maintaining equipment inventory - all standard qualifications for positions in the IT field.

±¬ÁϹÏing for a job with ITS

Students looking to find employment with ITS should apply through the Center for Career & Leadership DevelopmentÌý³Ü²õ¾±²Ô²µ Handshake. Applicants will need to submit their resumes, class schedules and preferably a cover letter. It is best to apply before the start of a semester, but we are always looking to add talented and knowledgeable individuals to the ITS team.

±¬ÁÏ¹Ï to work in one of the following technology positions:

  • Networking and server support
  • Database management and office work
  • Desktop maintenance and repair
  • Operating the ITS Help Desk
  • Providing IT consultancy
  • Troubleshooting for classrooms and campus facilities
  • Managing the hiring of other student employees
  • Leadership

Student Success

Many of our student employees have received additional opportunities to excel in other offices at the University. In the past year, several students were able to move from ITS to other departments within the University, and many of those workers secured positions with the University after graduation as a direct result of their performance.

  • Greg Hicks went on to work for Lockheed Martin after graduating from ±¬ÁϹÏ.
  • , who worked in our Geospatial and Visualization Computing group, secured an internship with the New York Times.

I graduated from ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï with a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, and I just recently accepted a full-time technology apprenticeship with Maxx Potential in Norfolk.

This job is truly the best job I have ever had. I firmly believe that I would not have had the success I have had (with my graduation and earning this apprenticeship) without this job at ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï fixing computer and software issues.

It is through this job that I have come to realize just how much I enjoy helping others, and it is that feeling of pride and accomplishment that helped me bring my grades up and eventually graduate from ±¬ÁϹÏ—a feat that three years ago I had thought nearly impossible.

So thank you for a worthwhile and enjoyable experience. It has been something that I will look back on and consider a turning point in my life for the better.
