Whether visiting ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï for a one-day conference or a three-month research opportunity, we want guests to have access to the resources they need while they are here. University visitors can gain temporary access to ±¬ÁϹÏ's wired and wireless networks by requesting guest access or a sponsored account.
Request guest wireless access
If all you need is temporary wireless access, you can request access for yourself:
- Select the wireless network Access±¬ÁϹÏ.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to request guest access. (A browser window should open automatically.)
- Log in with a username and password that are emailed to you.
Your wireless access is good until midnight.
You can also yourself or a guest ahead of time on the day of your visit. You'll get an email with instructions for connecting to Access±¬ÁϹÏ.
Request a longer term guest account
±¬ÁÏ¹Ï faculty and staff members can request wireless access (and other network services) on behalf of a guest: Either submit a ticket (click on Help & Support) or send an email to itshelp@odu.edu. Requests should be made at least 3 business days before the guest needs it and include:
- Guest's full name
- Guest's email and phone number
- Type of account needed (wired or wireless)
- Length of time account is needed
To request network access for multiple people attending an event, please provide:
- Name of the event
- Approximate number of people expected to attend
- Duration of event
- Contact person
Types of guest accounts
MIDAS Guest accounts are for individuals with long (more than six months) affiliations to the University who require IT resources while they are here. Multiple services, in addition to wireless, are available.
Sponsored Account: Temporary affiliates of the University commonly receive sponsored accounts. Typically, these users require WiFi or LAN access for a short time (less than six months).
Event Account: Event accounts allow event or conference attendees temporary access to WiFi for the duration of the event.
Request the ability to create guest accounts
We can grant designated faculty or staff members the ability to generate accounts as needed. If your department or college has regular guests or events, you can request this ability from the ITS Help Desk through or by email. Someone from the Help Desk will then contact you to determine your department's needs.
