Psychology Major | Class of 1973
How has being a Psychology graduate from ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï helped shape your professional success?
I graduated with a BS in Psychology in 1979 (emphasis in Industrial Psychology) and an MPA in 1984. I'm currently a Labor and Employment Arbitrator/Mediator and Executive Director of the Society of Federal Labor and Employee Relations Professionals. I retired in January 2021 as the Director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. Understanding human psychology is very important in being successful in the dispute resolution profession.
What advice would you give to current Monarchs in Science?
My advice is always to believe in your talent and learn from your mistakes. Never say never and be open to all possibilities and risks. It served me well in my 40 year government career and my nomination and confirmation by the US Senate.
